Nest #2

I think the rivalry is sort of at a standstill because they both have their opinions and the arguement isn't really moving anywhere.

As of now I think Chief is very strong, because he has survived in the ward for so long. McMurphy allows him to have another sense of hope in defeating Big Nurse. It makes him more optomistic in general because he sees a glimpse of salvation.

At this point in the story, I am rooting for McMurphy becasue I admire his determined-ness and how strong of a leader he is. I wish that he could be more effective.

Gatsby Blog #3

1. Why does Gatsby have to die?
The reason Gatbsy has to die is that it ends the story so there is no room for interpretation. The fact is he didn't achieve his dream and he never will. If he ended up living we could have hope they get togethere and from there make our own speculations.

2. Why does Fitzgerald have the book end with Gatsby's death?
He feels that love hasn't been good for him and he wants other people to feel that pain. He wants to share that not every dream is attainable.

3. Why does Nick tell this after its happened?
It shows a respect for Gatsby. You know that he thought of Gatbsy in a postitive manner and it allows him to put in emotion where he sees fit after all is said and done.

4. Why is Daisy stil with Tom?
She has a sense of security when she is around him and it allows her to have someone who loves her. If she wanted to switch to Gatsby there would be the crossing of the unknown and the idea of the possibilities scare her.
